Though my education and training is a foundation of how I practice medicine, a better understanding of who I am as a psychiatrist and physician can be found in the bricks of the building I work in.

After nearly a decade living in Boise, I can’t recall a time when I haven’t known of our unique building on the corner of Franklin Street and 15th, which is today North End Psychiatry & Associates. Now over 111 years old, our beautiful arts & crafts style bungalow is constructed with clinker bricks.

These “clinker” bricks – which start out as typical bricks deformed during the kiln-firing process because they are wet and too close to the heat source – were historically discarded as defective, non-uniform, and of no industrial value. Highly variable in shape, texture, color, and luster, no two clinker bricks are alike and all tell a story of violent challenge and survival. The arts & crafts movement of the early 20th century realized the beauty and uniqueness of these clinkers from the kiln, and many builders and designers of the period integrated them seamlessly into a home’s masonry work to provide both structure and beauty.

Not until after Dr. Clancy and I acquired this building did I recognize what a perfect metaphor the clinker brick bungalow is for my beliefs about psychiatry, diversity, and the societal strength that comes from inclusion and renewal.

I believe my role as a psychiatrist is to join my patients on their life journey for a time, relieving their symptoms when possible, reflecting their own truth when evident, and empowering them to make changes that are often the only pathway to complete healing and growth. I am committed to truth and being “real” in one’s approach to living. I feel the core of any viable treatment relationship is trust. Without mutual trust, there is no movement forward.

Education/Credentials
In 1999 I received my medical doctorate from the Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine. Internship and psychiatry residency training followed at the University of California-Davis School of Medicine from 1999 to 2003. In 2004, I completed my fellowship in geriatric psychiatry from Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

It is with great pleasure that I am working with this outstanding team. I have been practicing psychiatry as a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist for close to ten years now, but my life before psychiatry has contributed to my practice style and patient interactions immensely.

My road to psychiatry was full of twists and turns including bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering and meteorology as well as six years serving as an Air Force weather officer.

These experiences have taught me how to approach and solve problems as well as work with people in a team. I graduated from medical school and trained in psychiatry after all those adventures. During those years of medical school and residency, my family expanded with the births of my four great sons.

I come from a family of teachers and this is a part of me and my style of practice. Working with individuals and families requires more than the traditional paternalistic approach. When I evaluate and treat you, we will walk side-by-side on the journey. I bring a lot of knowledge to this walk and will strive to make sure that you are an informed part of the decision-making. I will listen to your experiences and feedback so we get things right for you.

I also love public speaking and teaching about mental health through my greatest hobby, The Dr. Jim Show, which can be heard every Sunday afternoon at 5:30 pm on KRBX Radio Boise, the local community radio station—89.9 FM in the Treasure Valley and 93.5 FM around downtown Boise.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist with more than ten years of experience. I came to Boise in 2011 to start an outpatient psychiatry program for St. Luke’s. I have practiced in a variety of community psychiatry settings. Before practicing at St. Luke’s, I was the Medical Director for an Inpatient/Outpatient/Consultation program in Washington. I also practiced for a few years, just out of training, at an inpatient facility in Fairbanks, Alaska as a staff psychiatrist. My work at St. Luke’s was strictly outpatient, but I also had many administrative duties as the Medical Director. I am so excited to start a new journey as a private practice psychiatrist where I hope to continue to provide compassionate, conservative, evidence-based care to my patients.

Originally from Michigan, I trained at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I was lucky enough to earn undergraduate and medical degrees there and also complete my residency training at the University of Michigan Hospitals. Ann Arbor provided a wealth of opportunity to work in various mental health settings while earning my degrees. I was able to do direct care in group homes for the chronically mentally ill and work in a program that provided free psychiatric care and medications to the homeless population.

My life in Boise is centered around family. I enjoy spending time with my husband, our two daughters, and our two dogs. Our daughters are talented dancers and we spend lots of time at the local ballet and a competition dance studio. We travel a lot for dance, creating fun memories together.

I am Jill Hart and I am an Idaho native. I have been with North End Psychiatry & Associates since May, 2019. I graduated from an associate nursing program at Treasure Valley Community College in 1995 and worked as a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) for 20 years. Throughout those years, I completed a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Boise State University. In 2014, I completed a master’s degree in the Family Nurse Practitioner program from University of Cincinnati. After working a few years as a provider in the emergency department and urgent care settings, I began working in the behavioral health realm. I found that being able to take time with my patients in a more intimate, one-on-one setting in this field to be so much more rewarding. I enjoy all aspects of behavioral and psychiatric treatment.

My husband and I have five grown children and two adorable grandsons. In our free time, we enjoy spending time with our family and all outdoor activities, including skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, backpacking, scuba diving, paddle boarding, and biking.

Janet Cardoza started her career in outpatient drug and alcohol treatment with the Nelson Institute. She has a very passionate interest in adults who have survived relationship trauma in their families. Next, she obtained a Masters in Community Counseling from Idaho State University. Her internships were with children and families at Warm Springs Counseling Center and with teens at Marion Pritchett School for pregnant and parenting teens. Janet worked from 1995 to the present in Boise School District as an elementary counselor serving two north end schools. She was also employed for several years by an employee assistance counseling center. Her Idaho license is an LCP-C which allows private practice and supervision of counselors obtaining licenses.

Janet’s approach to counseling is very strengths-based regardless of client. She believes we are each experts on ourselves and benefit from a “fellow traveler” to guide and support. Counseling is a journey that a client and counselor take together regardless of age. Inspiring theorists have been Violet Oaklander, Gary Landreth, Alfred Adler, Richard Glasser, Alice Miller, Tian Dayton, Martin Seligman and Brene Brown among many. The greatest of her teachers have been her marriage of 36 years and her three grown children. Janet was awarded The Elementary Counselor of the Year by the Boise School District and The Counselor Supervisor of the Year by Boise State University.

Born in Bahrain, in the Persian Gulf, Janet traveled the world until the age of seventeen. She lived in Sydney, Australia, Beirut, Lebanon and Bordeaux, France. This experience in global citizenship was the perfect preparation for the journey of counseling. Putting herself in the “culture” of others came very naturally. Celebrating diversity and compassion for all is a vital piece of Janet’s approach with clients. A naturally active person, Janet loves horses, biking, hiking, travel, art, and sewing.

Janet was an elementary counselor for decades which provided great experience in presenting/teaching. She led groups for thirty years and would love to do presentations and workshops in the future. Some areas of specialty are children, teens, adult survivors of trauma (including the mental illness or addiction of a loved one), couples, clients with anxiety and depression, school problems, and career issues.

After working with hundreds of individuals, I have developed skills to ensure you feel heard, supported, and led towards a personalized solution. I utilize an integrative approach of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness techniques. I provide relationship and individual counseling with specialties in managing schizophrenia, bipolar, anxiety, depression, and interpersonal challenges.

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and certified counselor supervisor in the state of Idaho. I received my Master’s degree in Counseling from West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas and my Bachelor’s degree in Christian Studies from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona.

I was born and raised in Arizona, resided in Texas for 10 years prior to moving to Boise, Idaho in 2014. I find calm and relaxation by fly fishing on my days off and spending time with my wife and two dogs.

Bradley Raburn, LCPC, is currently providing mental health services at our Caldwell office, West End Psychiatry, serving those in Caldwell, Nampa, Middleton, and surrounding areas in the Western Treasure Valley.

Beth Christiansen received her training at Hofstra University and graduated with her LMFT in May 2007. Beth worked for Metropolitan Marriage and Family Therapy located in NY, NY. While there, she helped clients with depression, anxiety, grief, as well as marriage and family therapy. She later opened her own practice in Garden City, NY. The main theories Beth has training in include: Gottman, Imago, Solution Focused, Narrative and storytelling therapies, CBT and Bowen Family Systems. Beth enjoys helping her clients see the potential they have to be able to move forward in life and not stay stuck.

Beth recently relocated back to Boise , Idaho where she grew up and is very excited to be part of the North End Psychiatry Team. She is looking forward to empowering people to live better lives.
